FRIDAY

The Marin-based writer championed community colleges during her 2008-2010 tenure in the largely honorary office, calling herself a “whistle-blower” who “advocated for much underpraised and underfunded community colleges across the nation.”

Proceeds from the event will be used to support arts and poetry programming at all branches of the . Tickets are $25, on sale at all the branches of the Marin County Free Library as well as Book Passage.

Jam band fans and Deadheads who will not die can get a contact high from this weekend, Friday and Saturday, at . The B-3 organist and bandleader, who toured with Jerry Garcia’s other band for 18 years, continues to treat music lovers to the sound they want to hear with JGB. (Now that Phil Lesh has decided , is San Rafael the next stop?) Tickets $30 at the door.
SATURDAY
takes you to the heart of Southern Spain with an evening of Spanish cuisine and dance performance by local flamenco group Aguilar Flamenco. This event is for adults, but free child care will be provided for children ages 1-7.

SUNDAY
Only are only half-a-dozen more this year, the next one on Sunday, Nov. 20. As the third largest farmers market in California, the market celebrates its 20th year with more than 190 farms participating throughout the year and more than 300 varieties of farm fresh fruits and vegetables, plus 60 gourmet food purveyors and 100 artisans. It’s 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and it’s free.
Also Sunday, an opportunity to see a new 35mm print of Robert Altman's breakthrough film in conversation with congressional candidate Norman Solomon after the 2 p.m. screening. This is billed as a non-campaign event, but the film itself was almost revolutionary in its day, and it will be interesting to hear what Gould, Solomon and the audience have to say. At the ; tickets $18 at the door, $15 for CFI members.
