"Travesties" Opens Marin Shakespeare Summer Festival

Enjoy a riff on Wilde's Earnest

The Marin Shakespeare Company's  summer mainstage season opens Friday night with Tom Stoppard's "Travesties."

The Tony award winning farce borrows from Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest," as well as James Joyce's "Ulysses," Dada poetry and early 20th century politics.

Directed by  Robert Currier, artistic director, the production continues through Aug. 15 at the Forest Meadows Amphitheater.

Previews begin July 16 and 18 for William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew," a swashbuckling, seafaring version of the romantic tale. It runs through Sept. 26.

On a more serious note, Shakespeare's "Antony and Cleopatra" will be presented Aug. 20 through Sept. 25. This follows last summer's production of "Julius Caesar," and continues the Roman saga and the love story of Antony and the queen of Egypt.
