presents an exhibit featuring a variety of pop art in various mediums inspired by pop culture and popular music. The exhibit features paintings, photography, fashions created from recyclable material, artworks created by TeamWorks teachers and students and the "Zero Breast Cancer Hat Collection" - a collection of hats created by the Plexus Arts Group, which have just returned from New York City where they were featured in a breast cancer HBO documentary. The public is invited to this free artists' reception, as part of the June "Second Friday Artwalk" event.

If you go: The reception is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Marin Arts Gallery is at 906 Fourth Street in San Rafael.

Saturday:

The popular Children’s Avenue street painting experience will be available today during our "Lights On!" exhibit and opening of the new Youth in Arts office in downtown San Rafael. Join Youth in Arts and bring your young madonnari (Italian for street painters!) For a small fee, hundreds of children will create street paintings as part of the celebration of the Youth in Arts move to 917 C Street, San Rafael. You can also visit the new office, gallery and retail space, and learn more about the projects, performances and programs. Hear the award winning teen a capella troupe Til Dawn sing and experience an array of hands-on arts activities.

If you go: Admission is free, the street painting fee is $12 and is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on C Street between Third and Fourth in Downtown San Rafael.

 

Saturday-

Friends of the Library will be having a book sale offering a full range of new and gently-used books on the lawn of the .  

If you go: The sale is from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the San Rafael Library Lawn.

 

Saturday and Sunday:

This is the 18th year the event has been held, bringing Sufis and leaders of many faiths from around the world for a weekend of conversation on spiritual psychology and the connections between mind and heart, as well as Sufi music and poetry reading. The event will feature the Taneen Sufi Music Ensemble and Riffat Sultana on Saturday at 5 p.m. Taneen sings of love and poetry with music that fuses Middle Eastern and Western influences. They have performed all over the world including the Parliament of World Religions conference in Spain. Sultana is the first woman from her family’s musical lineage to publicly perform in the west. Her father was recognized as one of the finest Pakistani classical singers of his time.

If you go:  A ticket for the music presentation is $15 at the door and begins at 5 p.m. Registration for the symposium is $75 at the door. For more information about the event, click here. The symposium is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at , 50 Acacia Ave in Guzman Lecture Hall in San Rafael.
