Friday:

Great American Taxi has been equated with roots rockers like the New Riders of the Purple Sage, Grateful Dead, Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, The Byrds and Little Feat. In the past five years, Great American Taxi has become one of the best-known headliners on the jam band circuit. Their uninhibited sound is a swinging concoction of swampy blues, progressive bluegrass, funky New Orleans strut, Southern boogie, honky tonk country, gospel and good old fashioned rock ’n’ roll. Five Eyed Hand is a Santa Cruz based quartet that forges into new musical territory while embracing and fusing the traditional roots of jazz, psychedelic rock, folk, funk and beyond.

If you go: General admission is $15, Reserved tables are $25.  The show is from 9 p.m. to midnight at the , 100 Yacht Club Drive in San Rafael.

Saturday:

Come on over to the San Rafael Yacht Club for a fabulous day of barbecue, live music, water games and sailboat demonstrations.  Additionally there will be “the great paddle challenge” and kids games!

If you go: Free admission with food and drink for purchase.  The event is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the San Rafael Yacht Club, 200 Yacht Club Drive in San Rafael.

 

Saturday:

Thomas Mapfumo & The Blacks Unlimited, a musical visionary and fearless social critic and certainly one of the greatest African band leaders of the past century makes his premier appearance at the festival. In 2007 Thomas’s music was banned in Zimbabwe by the government he helped bring to power. He lives in political exile with his family and band in the US. Still, his 2001 release in Zimbabwe “Chimurenga Rebel” sold its entire 35, 000 copies in a few days, and Thomas continues to release music every year against this tide of political oppression and intrigue.

If you go: Tickets at the door are $25 public / $20 JCC members, children 6–17 are $5 and children 5 and under are free. Advance tickets are $20 and can be bought by clicking here. The show starts at 7 p.m. (with doors opening at 6:15 p.m.) to 10 p.m. at the , 200 N. San Pedro Road in San Rafael. Barbecue dinners will be available for purchase on site from Mi Pueblo Food Center.
