MVFF35 Faves Get 2013 Oscar Nod

Several of the filmmakers who appeared in the festival will be on their way to the red carpet again for the 85th Academy Awards.

Awards season is upon us and several films screened at the recent 35th Mill Valley Film Festival have been noticed for Golden Globes and Academy Awards.

Ang Lee's Life of Pi, Ben Affleck's Argo and David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook was received Oscar nominations for best picture. Last year, the Mill Valley Film Festival favorite The Artist won the top prize.

Silver Linings Playbook and Life of Pi snagged most of the nominations. Bradley Cooper, who made an appearance in Marin for his film about a mentally ill man's recovery after being released from a hospital, along with his co-stars Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro and Jackie Weaver all received nominations. The film was also up for film Editing, directing and writing categories. Lawrence won a Golden Globe for her performance.

Other than best picture, Life of Pi also received nominations for its music, production design, cinematography, sound mixing, sound editing, visual effects and adapted screenplay.

Argo also received several nominations, including Alan Arkin for best actor in a supporting role, sound mixing, sound editing and adapted screenplay. Affleck's political thriller recently took home the prize for best motion picture drama and best directing at the 2013 Golden Globes.

Helen Hunt was nominated for her role in The Sessions.

The Oscars begin at 4 p.m. on Feb. 24.
