Marin Woman Nabs Second Place in Jared Huffman's Photography Contest

The winning photographs will be published as Congressman Huffman's official Twitter header photo and Facebook cover photo for three months apiece.

A gorgeous aerial shot of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin Headlands, taken by Anise Gemmell of San Rafael, is one of the two winners of Rep. Jared Huffman's district-wide landscape photography competition

The other winning photo, taken by Sandy Evans of Ukiah, was also of the Golden Gate Bridge. That photo took first place with 324 Facebook “likes,” and Gemmell's shot nabbed second place with 290 “likes.”

“This photography competition showcases exactly why I believe we have the most beautiful Congressional District in the nation," Huffman said in a statement. "I am happy to have received so many incredible photos of our district, and I congratulate Sandy Evans and Anise Gemmell for their winning photographs.”

With a district that spans the California Coast from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Oregon border, Huffman's geographic terrain has plenty of landscape beauty within its borders. Not surprisingly, Marin residents and Marin landscapes were plentiful in the competition, with 94 of the 207 entries being taken of Marin landscapes or by Marin residents.

To vote, Marin residents went to Huffman’s Facebook page and “liked” their favorite photos.

Huffman also announced winners for photographs taken in each of the district’s counties, which may be found here:

Huffman received more than 207 entries from across California’s Second Congressional District. All entries may be found here.
