The Power and the Powerless with Filmmaker Cory Taylor in Person

Emmy Award-winning filmmaker (and Marin native) Cory Taylor will present and discuss his documentary on one of the most inspiring episodes of "people-power" in recent history: Czechoslovakia's Velvet Revolution. Narrated by Jeremy Irons, The Power of the Powerless explores that country's legacy of communist rule and the struggle against it: from the iron-fisted Stalinist government of the 1950s, through the vibrant Prague Spring of the 60s, the hard-line backlash of the 70s, and finally the bloodless revolution of 1989, in which a student-led movement brought a half-million people into the streets. The film includes rare interviews with key figures of the Velvet Revolution, including Václav Havel, the blacklisted playwright who would become president. It also reveals that contemporary Czech youth are increasingly unaware of their own important history. Writer/Director: Cory Taylor
