Summer Reading Program

The 2010 Summer Reading Program is a free reading incentive program co-sponsored by the San Rafael Public Library and the Friends of the San Rafael Public Library. Children read during the summer months and earn prizes. Any children in grades K - 8 who can read independently are welcome to join and may do so by filling out a registration form at the library.

Children keep track of their summer reading on a reading log. Reading does not have to be done in the library, but when and wherever it is convenient. After reaching certain goals, children bring their reading log into the library to collect prizes. For example, if a child reads 15 books or 750 pages or for 7½ hours they can earn a brand new paperback book. If they read 30 books or 1500 pages or for 15 hours they can even earn a coupon to either a Giants' game or the California Academy of Sciences.

Studies show that students who participate in a summer reading program are more likely to read at or above their grade level and are more likely to retain their skills into the next school year. This is a great chance to keep your child interested in reading during the summer months!
