Compared to such legends as Join Mitchell and Nina Simone, Ethiopian born Meklit Hadero writes and performs songs influenced by jazz, soul, folk and her heritage.  The talented singer-songwriter based in the Bay area is an extraordinarily accomplished writer with a unique voice, demonstrates exceptional grace and charm, and actively pursues a socially and politically committed agenda.

Since its release, her first cd "On a Day Like This"  has been  a favorite with critics and media and continues to garner interest with a piece on PBS last August, a new "featured  artist" slot on Google Music, a full feature on PRI last August , and YouTube Music Pick in Sept.

Meklit Hadero’s star continues to rise.

She's a TED Senior Fellow, is developing a 2 years musical journey down several of the countries of the Nile Treaty in her Nile Project , has a hip hop album in collaboration with 2 prominent emcees coming out in April known as Copperwire, and another of duet covers of indie rock hits around the same time.

Her gigs range from San Francisco’s classic rock club The Independent to a month-long artist residency at NYU while curating weekly shows at Lincoln Center's Atrium; she  was a Bumberpick (along with Mavis Staples )  at Bumbershoot in Sept. where she KILLED it ... In October she did a 5 day residency at the International Ringling Festival in Sarasota FL (curated by Baryshnikov) and Misha liked her so much he insisted on presenting her at the Baryshnikov Performing Arts Center in NYC.

Don’t miss this opportunity to see her in the intimate Hoytt Theater at the Osher Marin JCC, right here in San Rafael, before she leaves the county to embark on her incredible journey.
