Joan Rivers - A Piece of Work

One of the highlights of the Sundance Film Festival, this up-close-and-personal portrait of iconic, irreverent comedian Joan Rivers follows her through her 76th year of life, as she fights tooth-and-nail to keep her American dream alive. An outrageously funny journey as well as a frank look at a ruthless entertainment industry, the documentary has unprecedented, unguarded access to Rivers onstage and off, interweaving her own commentary with home movies, stand-up routines and archival footage, and even exploring the forces of self-doubt and anger that can fuel great comedy. Going far beyond the plastic surgery jokes, this terrific film introduces us to a tenacious workaholic and female pioneer who has constantly had to reinvent herself to stay at the top of her field. Whatever you thought of Joan Rivers before you see this film, it will open your eyes and likely amaze you.
