As part of the Film Center's Filmmakers in Person Series, special honored guest and star of the featured film,
George Houser,
civil rights activist will be discuss the film live in person.

Have You Heard from Johannesburg is the overall title of Connie Field's epic, seven-part documentary series that shines light on the worldwide citizens' movement that took on South Africa's apartheid regime. Sure to be the definitive cinematic history of the struggle, the films reveal how everyday people helped challenge (and end) one of the greatest injustices the world has ever known. In seven different films, each a complete story in itself, the series follows three generations of struggle inside South Africa and of battles waged in sports arenas, cathedrals, corporate boardrooms and rock concerts around the globe, providing an inspiring story for all of us.

Bay Area filmmaker Connie Field is a two-time Academy Award nominee and the winner of the Sundance Grand Jury Prize, among other honors. Her films include The Life and Times of Rosie the Riveter, Freedom on My Mind, Salud and Forever Activists. These screenings of Have You Heard from Johannesburg, following its world premiere in New York City in April, cap Connie Field's ten-year odyssey making the epic series. The seven independent films in this series are grouped into three parts for this theatrical exhibition. Each Part has a separate admission charge. It is not necessary to view Parts One, Two and Three sequentially. For more information or to purchase tickets please visit the California Film Institute website.
