Dance Your Socks Off this Memorial Day Weekend

Check out what's happening in San Rafael and Marin this weekend.

Dance band The Cheeseballs performs the greatest dance hits at on Friday. One of Northern California's premier cover bands, they play an irresistible blend of '80s pop hits, '70s disco and funk, rock 'n' roll, hip-hop and more. Their members are top-notch session and touring musicians who've worked with artists ranging from John Lee Hooker to John Michael Montgomery. The dance floor will be open for this live music party. 

With a newly revamped line-up of fresh new faces, these top notch musicians have an ever-expanding set of hits and an extraordinarily strong reputation. Led by Eric “Funky Lim” Cotton, the band also features Ry Kihn on guitar, the son of rock legend Greg Kihn, drummer Bryant Mills (John Lee Hooker, Charlie Musselwhite), Mike Leatherman on keys (John Michael Montgomery, Jo Dee Messina), and Mike Rogers on Bass (John Lee Hooker, David Grisman).

Tickets are $10. The show starts at 9 p.m.

“Farm Fresh Fashion” is a new exhibit at Gallery curated by author, textile artist and educator Rebecca Burgess. As part of her “Fibershed” project, Burgess spent a year living in clothing sourced from a 150-mile radius around her Marin home. “Farm Fresh Fashion” explores the benefits to our environment of using more locally produced textiles and fiber goods.

The exhibit includes hands-on activities for families, including a “Sheep to Sweater” touch table, an art project using natural dye pigments and a “willow weaving wall."

The exhibit continues through June 1. Youth in Arts Gallery is open most weekdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free tours with hands-on activity provided for school groups by appointment.

Come to the Marin Greek Festival this Memorial Day weekend, open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, and Sunday, May 27, at the in Ignacio, 1110 Highland Drive. Free parking and shuttle service are available at the  at the end of Ignacio Boulevard. Admission is $6/adults, $5/seniors (65 and over), children 12 and under get in free. There will be a Memorial Day Service at the on Monday, May 28 beginning on 9:30 a.m. This free event will honor those who gave their lives in service of our country.

We have been to Pet Emergency a few times with various animals over the years, and they areRead More absolutely FANTASTIC! Top quality medical care, and a very caring and compassionate staff. I can't say that I look forward to going there (sick pets are always difficult), but I am sure glad they are here for us when we need them!
