Winter storms in the Northeast and Midwest are delaying passengers flying into and out of Bay Area airports today.

There are 18 departing flights and two arriving flights canceled at San Francisco International Airport, according to airport duty manager John Ginty. Flights to and from Boston, Newark and New York's John F. Kennedy International airports have been affected.

More cancellations are expected throughout the day, Ginty said. Other weather-related delays are affecting flights headed to Chicago's Midway and O'Hare international airports, he said. Flights to those destinations are delayed between one and two hours.

At Mineta San Jose International Airport, one flight to Boston has been canceled, airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes said.

Flights to Chicago airports have had delays of up to 90 minutes, Barnes said.

Travelers at Oakland International Airport are not expected to encounter any delays or canceled flights, an operations employee said.
