Vin Antico Closes, Restaurant Space is for Sale

Sign posted last week in the window of the popular downtown San Rafael eatery and wine bar.

A recently posted sign in the window says only that Vin Antico has closed and that it is for sale and that more information will “be coming soon.”  Patch attempts to contact Vin Antico owner Kerri Cerundolo have been unsuccessful thus far.

The restaurant opened to much fanfare in 2006 at 881 Fourth Street in San Rafael.  Shortly thereafter it was typically a standing-room-only scene.  Customers clamored over the tasty Italian country menu that featured seasonal offerings paired with California and Italian wines.  The wine bar maintained a chic atmosphere and served a nice variety of salads, paninis and homemade pastas and entrees.

Chef Ed Vigil had taken over the kitchen in 2010 and also became a partner in the restaurant.  Vigil, one time chef at the Olema Inn left in late June last year.  (Former Olema Inn owners Dana and Jennifer Sulprizio now own and operate the Sweetlife Bakery in San Anselmo.)  Gesser de Leon, formerly of Sabor of Spain, then took over the chef’s reins at Vin Antico upon Vigil’s exit.

Sabor of Spain shut its doors in September 2012.
