San Rafael Police Holding 'Parent Project'

The 10-week training program is designed for parents raising difficult or out-of-control adolescents.

The San Rafael Police Department on Monday announced its bringing back a program that aims to help parents raise unruly kids.

The Parent Project is a 10-week training program is designed for parents raising difficult or out-of-control adolescents.

The program’s goals include reducing family conflict and crime and improving academic performance and attendance – leading indicators of juvenile delinquency.

The program includes parenting strategies for dealing with poor school performance, truancy, media influences, early teen sexuality, drug use, youth gangs, violence and bullying, and runaways.

The San Rafael Police Department’s Youth Services Bureau will provide instruction.

“We address the critical issues parents face and offer no-nonsense solutions,” San Rafael Police Department spokeswoman Margo Rohrabacher said in a prepared statement.

The program meets one night per week for two to three hours in a classroom setting.

The program includes an on-going parent support groups addressing problems after the course has concluded.

The program will be held at the B Street Recreation Center on Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. from Jan. 23 to March 27.

Course tuition is $50 for one parent, or $50 plus the cost of additional book for couples.
