Holiday Book Drives, Cooking Latkes, Teen Talks and More this Week

From holiday book drives to cooking classes, talking to teens about touchy subjects and new owner events, this is what you need to know this week.

Tis’ the Season for Giving

Get into the holiday spirit and donate gently used books to the drive. K-12 books are especially in demand. The deadline for donations is Dec. 15. The drop-off spot is 1099 D Street, Penthouse B.


Learning about Latkes

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, the first of four classes on Jewish Cooking and Food will be a session of hands-on cooking, excellent noshing, a pinch of Jewish learning and cupfuls of laughter shared by a range of dynamic, experienced instructors. Flipping Latkes with a Chef and a Rabbi costs $20.00 per session and will be at 170 North San Pedro Rd. beginnig at 9:30 a.m.


Talking to Teens About the Tough Stuff

is holding a Parents Education Night on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Come and join Huckleberry Youth Programs for an interactive evening to explore two of the toughest subjects that impact teens: drugs and/or alcohol and sexuality. In this workshop, learn to talk, listen and be heard when helping a teen navigate these topics. 7p.m.


Love that New Car Smell

invites all new owners to attend the last of the New Owner Event of the year on Thursday, Dec. 8. Attendees can learn how protect their investment through proper maintenance and make the most of the vehicle's technology and safety features. 6:30p.m.


Get Creative for the Holidays

Join in on the fun this Friday, Dec. 9, at the kick-off party for the 2011 at . The party includes “Amusings" art by Patti Oji in the Underground Gallery, and AWD Associate Artists exhibit in the Founders Lounge. 5p.m. - 8p.m.
