George Lucas is Tying the Knot

Star Wars' creator who sold Lucasfilm to Disney last year and was of the finalists for the San Anselmo - Fairfax Patch 2012 Person of the Year is engaged.

Less than three months after selling his Lucasfilm empire to Disney for more than $4 billion, Marin filmmaker and producer George Lucas is engaged.

The 68-year-old San Anselmo resident, who made several local and national headlines in 2012, is reportedly engaged to Mellody Hobson, Lucasfilm spokesperson Chris Argyropoulos confirmed Friday morning.

Hobson, 43, is an investment firm president, serves as chairman of DreamWorks Animation and is a financial contributor to ABC’s “Good Morning America,” according to the Associated Press.

No other details about the engagement are available at this time, according to Lucasfilm.

Last month Patch readers nominated Lucas to be the 2012 San Anselmo – Fairfax Patch Person of the Year because of all the local contributions he has made.

Last summer, the Star Wars’ creator announced he was donating a downtown San Anselmo building at 535 San Anselmo Avenue to the San Anselmo Chamber of Commerce’s foundation with plans to demolish the building and turn it into a park complete with statues of Indiana Jones and Yoda.

The San Anselmo Planning Commission will vote on approving a permit for the demolition of the building and discuss plans for the community park on Monday, Jan. 7.

Lucas garnered national attention in 2012 for his decision to pull the plug on his plans for Grady Ranch and, more recently, when he sold Lucasfilm to Disney for $4.05 billion.

He donated all the cash from the Lucasfilm-Disney deal to his foundation Edutopia, which is based in San Rafael and supports education programs.

Lucas was married to film editor Marcia Lucas from 1969 to 1983. His three children are named Amanda, Katie and Jett.

It would be nice if the comments section had "Thumbs up / Thumbs down" like the PressRead More Democrat.

We have been to Pet Emergency a few times with various animals over the years, and they areRead More absolutely FANTASTIC! Top quality medical care, and a very caring and compassionate staff. I can't say that I look forward to going there (sick pets are always difficult), but I am sure glad they are here for us when we need them!
