Saturday

Environmental Forum of Marin Lecture Series 2013

9 a.m., Dominican University of California, 50 Acacia Ave, San Rafael, CA

Lecture Series 2013: Changes Challenges and Choices

What We Eat: Why All the Fuss?

No doubt about it — food is important. It’s our fuel. We get hungry, we eat, we go on to the next activity.  Sometimes there is no more thought behind our meal than that — a stop between activities. But maybe there should be. Maybe being more thoughtful will enrich our lives, improve our choices, and help heal the earth.

We are excited to present a remarkable panel of speakers who will explain food production, distribution and consumption as well as corresponding impacts upon human health and the environment. They will offer perspectives on the importance of local and organic food production; the differences our choices can make at local, state and federal levels; and the benefits of a plant-based diet.

Speakers:

Carol Misseldine - Director, Green Cities California

Kerry McGrath - Producer Member Manager, Marin Organic

Diana Donlon - Cool Foods Campaign Director, Center for Food Safety

9 a.m. , Falkirk Cultural Center, 1408 Mission Ave, San Rafael, CA

This is an extremely hands-on learning experience. The group will be divided into three smaller groups. Stations will offer information on propagating from seeds, plant cuttings and succulent offsets.   Marin Master Gardeners; Jessica Wasserman, Gary Bartl and Sandy Waks will be among the teachers. Bring gloves and hand pruners. A work party in the gardens will follow until 1 p.m. Come garden alongside Master Gardens and bring your gardening questions.

Coffee and snacks will be provided. $5.00 donation for the workshop.
