Family of Man in Coma after Bike Crash in Need of a Room in Marin

Ryan Concannon, 21, is now at the Kentfield Rehabilitation Hospital, where officials hope to bring him out of the coma he has been in since a September bike accident in Santa Cruz.

Family members of a UC Santa Cruz graduate who has been in a coma since a September bicycle accident are looking for a room to rent in Marin between the winter holidays.

Ryan Concannon, 21, was transferred to the Kentfield Rehabilitation Hospital earlier this month after spending more than 40 days at the San Jose Regional Medical Center ICU.

His family is looking for a room to rent from the weekend after Thanksgiving (Dec. 1-2) through December.

Concannon lost control of his bike and flew over the handlebars in Santa Cruz in September. Concannon wasn't wearing a helmet and suffered skull fractures.

He is still in a coma, but has recently started breathing on his own.

During his time in Kentfield - the second phase of his recovery - medical officials will focus on bringing him out of a coma, his mother Patty Concannon wrote on a website family set up to track his condition and raise funds.

“The doctors there gave us info on how to tell the difference of states of consciousness while offering us a lot of hope for his recovery. They tell us that it is not uncommon to have a long time in a coma and that each case is different!”

Ryan’s sister, Megan Concannon, said her mother and her mother’s fiancé are looking for a room or place to stay on what probably be a monthly basis. Ideally, it would be a room that accommodates two, she said. “They like to cook and eat home cooked meals, so a kitchen to use would be great,” she wrote to Patch in an e-mail.

Megan and Ryan’s girlfriend will also be looking for a place to sleep on Friday and Saturday nights, she said.

If you have a room or house that might work, contact Megan at mpconcan@gmail.com or (425) 785-6998.

Mike, did you offer yours? I don't live in Marin so don't bother asking if I did.

No I didn't offer my two extra rooms are rented out already with two kids that are in school or else I would. I just think its funny all theses liberals in marin talk about helping people in need put when they are called to help out they walk the other way.

This is an important time to shut up about politics as his poor family doesnt need to read all this. Have some class and tact.

I agree with cj. I live in a 500 sq ft one bedroom, or I would have them in a heartbeat. But I, like many probably, are simply just now reading this for the first time...give it a rest, Mike... good grief... =)
