Join to Restore Backyard at Family Shelter

Celebrate the close of a week of service honoring Martin Luther King, Jr., by volunteering in a backyard restoration project from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Homeward Bound’s Family Resource Center in San Rafael.

The project is a collaboration between Homeward Bound, the YMCA Youth Courts and Volunteer Marin to restore and beautify a backyard space at the Family Resource Center, a Homeward Bound of Marin program for nine families.

Volunteers will be involved in projects like cleaning up, painting, planting an edible garden, and working on art projects such as murals to help decorate the space.

Register to participate online through Volunteer Marin. Workers should bring their own gloves, hat and sunscreen; rain will cancel the project.

The Family Resource Center opened in 1974 as the first shelter operated by Homeward Bound of Marin. Since then, it has been home to hundreds of families as they move from crisis to stability to thriving.
