Are We Snobs? San Rafael Makes Dubious Top 10 List

San Rafael is a vibrant community that draws educated, cultured residents. But are we snobs?

There's a lot to be proud of in San Rafael. But are local residents a bit too proud? The city has landed on Movoto's Top 10 List of Snobbiest Mid-sized Cities in America.

Before you get too cranky about making the list, it's important to note that real estate website Movoto based its rankings completely on statistics without ever stepping foot in town.

The rankings used several criteria, including median home prices. It's no wonder that California landed five of the ten slots. Only communities with 45,000 - 65,000 people were considered. Here's the full list of characteristics that landed us high on the snobby index:

  • Median home price (the higher the better)
  • Median household income (the higher the better)
  • Percent of population with a college degree (the higher the better)
  • Private schools per capita (the more the better)
  • Performing arts per capita (the more the better)
  • Art galleries per capita (the more the better)
  • Fast food restaurants per capita (the more the better
