Citizens gathered from around the Bay Area to voice opposition to SB-1 a scheme to resurrect Redevelopment Agencies with broad new eminent domain powers. The California bill will allow government seizures of private property due to "inefficient use". No finding of blight is necessary. This draconian use of governmental power could be used to completely urbanize Marin, most especially within 1/2 mile of the 101 Freeway. Never before has government had so much power over citizen's private property in peacetime. Opponents of the land use grab have vowed to fight it. In the photo below, a skeptical audience of about 25 citizens gathered around Darrell Steinberg, Senate Pro Tem who was appearing at the fundraiser. Patch blogger, Richard Hall (green shirt) appears in the center of the photo. For more info see www.savemarinwood.org
