Marin County Fair Announces Headline Acts And New Contests For 2014

SAN RAFAEL, CA – (December 16, 2013) The 73rd Marin County Fair, themed The Happiest Fair on Earth! will offer more family fun than ever before! Dates are Wednesday, July 2 - Sunday, July 6 at the Marin County Fairgrounds.  The Marin County Fair is renowned for presenting affordable family fun, with great concerts, exhibits, contests, healthy foods, 28 free carnival rides, nightly fireworks, shopping, farm animals, and gardens.  For the latest information, visit www.marinfair.org and to submit entry forms for most categories, click on Competitive Exhibits starting on March 1.

HEADLINE CONCERTS:

The Marin County Fair's headline entertainment will feature home-grown  and Bay Area musicians, highlighting the County's draw as a creative mecca. More acts will be announced soon.

  • Huey Lewis and the News - Marin County’s own Huey Lewis and The News opens the 2014 Marin County Fair! Starting at Uncle Charlie's in Corte Madera and rocking audiences worldwide for three decades, these Grammy Award-winners have written and performed numerous Top Ten Hits including The Power of Love, which was nominated for an Academy Award and soared to #1 on Billboard’s singles chart. July 2, 7:30 pm
  • The Wailers - Together with Bob Marley, the Wailers have sold over 250 million albums worldwide. Reggae stars The Wailers have also played or performed with international acts like Sting, Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, and Alpha Blondy, as well as legends such as Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, and Burning Spear. July 3, 7:30 pm
  • Night Ranger - Starting in Mill Valley in 1980, classic rock stars Night Ranger gained popularity with a series of albums and singles. The band is best known for the power ballad Sister Christian (with MTV video filmed at San Rafael High School), When You Close Your Eyes and (You Can Still) Rock in America. July 5, 7:30 pm
  • Joan Jett and the Blackhearts - Joan Jett is a legend in the rock ‘n’ roll world and an inspiration for female rockers everywhere. With her band, the Blackhearts, Jett became a hit machine in the 1980s, pumping out rock anthems like I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll, I Hate Myself for Loving You and Crimson and Clover. Jett is one of only two women to make Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time. July 6, 7:30 pm

 

NEW CONTESTS FOR 2014:

Build a Ferris Wheel - Build a Ferris Wheel from new and/or recycled material. Miniature wheels up to wheels five feet tall!

Sock Puppets - Design a puppet made from a sock. The first 150 people to enter will receive a free sock to create their puppet!

Decorate a Plate - Decorate a plate – use any type of paint and/or glued on objects. Prizes given for the Best Painted Plate, Best Fair Theme and Best Mixed Media Plate.

Decorate a T-Shirt - Create and embellish a t-shirt using fabric paint, glitter, sequins, needlework – any type of material.

Beach Ball Art - Decorate a beach ball using paint or glued-on objects. The first 50 entrants will receive a beach ball to decorate.

Family Handprint Art - Create a work of art using an outline or print of two or more hands of your family members.  Embellish handprints or hand outlines in any way you like. Theme your entry to depict your family’s hobbies or traditions.

For the Birds! - Build and or decorate a bird house, bird feeder, birdbath or birdcage.

The Happiest Fair on Earth Baby Stroller Decorating & Parade - Decorate your stroller or wagon using materials you bring to the Fair!
