30th Anniversary Community Celebration Event Day-Of Volunteer Opportunities

Canal Alliance is celebrating three decades of service to the low-income immigrant community of Marin County. We are kicking off our festivities on June 24th, 2012 with a Community Celebration. Parts of Alto and Belvedere streets, in San Rafael, will be closed off to welcome community members and partners who've supported us throughout these 30 years! We'll have live music, delicious ethnic food, local vendor booths as well as a kid’s zone with face painting and more! The event is for the whole family and it is FREE!

While we invite you, your family, and other loved ones to come to the event simply just to take it all in, there is a need for volunteers to help at the event as well.

We have identified the following roles for which we need assistance at the event:

Set Up – Volunteers would help us essentially put together the event on the day of. We would need volunteers to staff 2 time slots: 8am-12pm and 11am-2:30pm.

Greeters – Volunteers would be stationed at select entry points and would welcome folks as they arrive and thank those leaving for attending. We need volunteers from 4-7:30pm.

Photographer – As with any celebration, you always need a good photographer on hand. We’ll need a few for this event. Times are flexible within the 2-7pm parameter.

Food Bussers/Table Clean Up – While it’s great to have an abundance of food vendors, we really want to keep the area as welcoming as possible and this means we’ll need help to keep it clean. We’re looking for volunteers from 4:45-7:15.

Break Down – This is a time to clean up and restore the Alto/Belvidere intersection to how it typically looks, and help put away the items used to construct the street festival. We’ll need help with this from 6:30-8:30.

Kids Zone Monitor - We will have many activities for children at the event. A highlight will certainly be the two gigantic inflated jumping areas that we will need monitors for from 1:30-4:00, and 3:45-7:15.

Water Station Monitor – We will have four water stations set up at key locations throughout the event. We need volunteers to help us keep the water in supply and help those who come by to rehydrate. We need volunteers from 1:45-4:00 and 3:45-7:15.

Parking Attendants – Volunteers will provide directive assistance for incoming attendees by indicating when available parking can be found. We need volunteers from 1:45 – 5:00.

Ideal candidates are those that:

  • have a background in customer service and enjoy working with the public
  • have a positive attitude and like to smile
  • can stand for up to 4 hours
  • don’t mind being in the sun for prolonged periods of time
  • like to have fun

All volunteers will receive a Special Edition Canal Alliance T-Shirt to wear at the event and a complimentary lunch at the event itself. These are great opportunities to build on language and cultural skills, learn about, advocate for, and celebrate diversity in our community.  Positions will be supervised by Director of Community Engagement and other Canal Alliance staff who will provide day-of training and prior to as needed.

It would be nice if the comments section had "Thumbs up / Thumbs down" like the PressRead More Democrat.
