San Rafael native Ness Zolan gave an impromptu violin performance of his composition "Venturous Tamalpais" to shoppers at a DC grocery store.

A San Rafael native who now lives in Washington DC got some attention after he serenaded shoppers with a rooftop violin performance.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Ness Zolan gave an impromptu performance of his composition “Venturous Tamalpais” to shoppers and pedestrians near the Harris Teeter supermarket at 1631 Kalorama Road NW, DCist reports.

The “fiddler on the roof” graduated from University of California at Santa Cruz in June 2008 with a bachelor of arts degree in violin and left the following fall for an internship program at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, according to the Marin Independent Journal.  According to the DCist, the musician currently works at the Kennedy Center.

Zolan told the DCist that the idea for the performance came from his roommate when they were watching passers-by strolling across the street weeks earlier. Due to the positive response, he plans to play every Sunday as the sun is setting.
