Green Party Candidate Arrested Outside Debate

Police say Laura Wells held someone else's ticket.

The Green Party candidate for governor was arrested outside Angelico Hall Tuesday after private security officers  say she tried to be admitted to the Whitman-Brown debate using someone else's ticket.

Laura Wells, 62, of Oakland, attempted to be admitted into the hall at about 5:20 p.m., saying she had a ticket and should have been invited to participate.

San Rafael Police said  all tickets to seats in Angelico Hall were numbered, coded and checked by campus security before the holder was admitted.  Wells presented a ticket that was not issued to her and refused to relinquish the ticket to campus security when asked to.

Police said Wells was warned that if she did not leave she would subject to citizen's arrest because she was on private property.

She was taken into custody by San Rafael Police officers and escorted from the grounds.  She was cited and released for trespassing.
