What do they offer the city of San Rafael?

At MoveMe Studio one can find community. It’s a chance to relax, take a break and meet others on a similar journey. This is a place of play, somewhere one can awaken the spirit and connect to the soul. They offer Nia and Yoga classes, both of which are physical and mental movement sessions. Nia is meant to draw in anyone, of any age. The class demograpic varies from 25-70 years, every class is good for beginners to well practiced devotees. It is safe on the joints and speaks to all generations of those hoping to find a sustainable practice for life.

Who are they?

Studio founder Sarah Caveney has been a Marin resident for over 10 years. As a mother to 2 elementary aged boys, this former Silicon Valley recruiter grew tired of the rat race synonymous with the high-tech industry. She longed to discover who she really was as a person. As a former dancer and gymnast, the practice of Nia spoke to her inner being. Sarah knew she had a skill for connecting people, but didn’t enjoy doing in it the fast-paced realm of technology. After discovering Nia she realized Marin County needed a place for all others looking to come together in hopes of discovering healing movement.

How long have they been there?

MoveMe Studio is proudly one of San Rafael’s newest businesses, having opened their doors only two weeks prior to this interview.

Why are they in our business spotlight?

The practice of Nia is described as a fusion of nine movement forms, including dance, martial arts and healing technique. It is practiced barefoot to world music; it is a fun way to move with purpose. It’s a form of release bringing joy to a fitness routine. Sarah is dedicated to transformation. Having recently gone through her own metamorphosis, she is now helping others find the change within themselves. All of the teachers at MoveMe Studio have been recruited through friends and networks, including Sienna Smith, a well known Fairfax Yoga instructor, who agreed the forms of Yoga and Nia must be joined and shared with the rest of Marin. This is the first studio in the county dedicated solely to Nia and Yoga sessions.

Did you know?

The study and practice of Nia was developed right here in Marin County. In 1982, Debbie and Carlos Rosas developed the technique and have been spreading the healing ever since.
